In class we have been learning about the digestive system.
The digestive system starts in the mouth and the mouth breaks the food into small pieces so we can swallow the food easily.
There is a muscle called the gullet that helps the food be pushed into the esophagus. The esophagus is a tube that leads to the stomach.
The stomach has acidic juice that melts the food to liquid. The stomach also breaks the food to smaller pieces.
The small intestine leads to the large intestine. The small intestine absorbs minerals and vitamins.
The large intestine absorbs salt and water. The large intestine leads to the rectum. (Rectum is a scientific word for bum.)
The rectum gets rid of the waste that our body doesn’t need anymore.
